During the summer of 2024, I worked as a Software Engineering Intern at BigCommerce, an e-commerce platform used by thousands of online stores. I joined a team responsible for internal cloud infrastructure. Over the course of the internship, I got hands-on experience working with AWS to build pipelines for large scale data transfers. Although the work felt a bit monotonous at times, I realized how important efficiency is for scaling a large scale companies. We worked in an 'assembly line' team where each person worked on a small section of a large project. For my role, I was given an architecture diagram and had to make the pipeline and hand it off to testers. This fast, iterative approach taught me how to work under a tight timeline. Another interesting part of the internships was that we were suggsested to adopt AI tools and code generation to further improve speed. This experience helped me learn how to effectively use these tools, which I now use everyday.
